CharactersCharacter Design : HayleyThis was my very first design of Hayley, she was made very abruptly when I was reading an article for English class in high school. The article was describing a girl with similar features, but when they described her eyes as cold and icy. That was the main inspiration for her having Ice Powers.Her hair was pretty consistent throughout this time. I designed her outfit when I used a Pokemon character creator from Deviantart. This is where I gave her her black shorts, long black socks and her gray sweater. Although I never drew her original design fully (I tried multiple times) I did draw her in a bikini and a maid outfit. I was still an amateur at the time.Towards the end of high school, I made the decision to redesign Hayley. I wasn’t fully happy with her design as at that point in time, I started creating her personality, in which she had a bit more of an attitude. I then decided to revamp her outfit, hair, and mute her colors a bit. I think her hair was the main factor I wanted to change and I overall fell in love with it.And it was also at this time when I took a long break on drawing, but the only thing I constantly drew was Hayley. I started the Hayley project, which was a design project I would work on every few months, in which I would design different outfits and draw her in cosplay. This project eventually ended prematurely as I was not drawing often at the time. Although this was the era where I was developing her character more and more, and it was at this point that I wanted to mix things up with her. When I started to get back into drawing in 2022, I got way more reference images of this design of Hayley. She became more in depth and it was time for a redesign that reflected the character she became.When redesigning Hayley, I wanted to really go back to my roots when I first designed her. In which my main inspiration for her was Cammy from Street Fighter. As you can see from the image on the left.When it comes to the clothing, I went through a lot of variations as I wanted to really try to envision how her new personality would reflect on her design. I’ll go through these from left to right. So my original idea for this new design was to give her a crop-top tank top with baggy pants and fingerless gloves, which were originally gray. The next 2 were direct variations of the first design just with different shirts, a crop-top turtleneck and just a regular crop-top t-shirt. The next design is a complete recolor of the 3rd costume, where I used variations of blues and whites in her design. I was very close to using this version of the design, since I like using blue to contrast her hair color. The final design was a variant of her final design but with black jeans rather than black cargo pants.When I made the final decision for her design, it was when I truly embraced her importation of Cammy, in which I gave her a turquoise unitard directly based on Cammy’s outfit. In combination with her baggy pants and her cropped sweater, the elements of her design came together very nicely, in my opinion. It was a design that was heavily inspired by her original design elements but pushed further to make her cooler looking and very much having an emo edge to her. I also enhanced her facial feature to really convey this heir of sadness to her, which was not in her original design._________________________________________Below is a variety of character designs I have created over the years that I am very proud of.
